I am not going to be popular with this opinion cottage lovers, but I absolutely love the way Alice’s enthusiasm has burst throught the TV screen during MasterChef in Italy this week.
I share her love of simple Mediterranean flavours, as you know. But its more than that for me, I really admire the child like passion with which she expresses that ideal. It reminds me of my Dad.
He talks about his past with passion, his memories of food with passion, and today I see that passion in him when he talks about his back yard vege patch. I just LOVE IT!
I wish you could meet my Dad – you would love him as much as I do, I’m sure of it!
Last week MasterChef really showcased the AMAZING simple food philosophy that comes from great Italian cooking – my family’s cooking. I was watching each night beaming with pride as contestants learned the art of cooking simple flavours. As much as we all love to tease her for her huge glasses and big personality, Alice nailed Italy week with her squid ink gnoicchi, orecchiette with peas, four cheese pizza and more. Big flavours, big heart, and big personality. Thats what it takes to tackle Italian cooking in my mind. Even if you hate Alice, you have to repect her cooking prowess when it comes to simple Italian flavours.
And my Dad has that passion for growing food, simple, easy and flavourful. Because if it isnt simple, easy and flavourful – whats the point?
So I want to bring the two together. Grow it and cook it – simple!

Oh I have to agree – Alice really grew on me this week. I love seeing people so happy to be doing what they love! Your dad sounds awesome! Cheers, Mez x
He is Mez. He really is!
Just came across your blog via the nuffnang blogopolis page… and I love that you’re writing all about your love of Masterchef – a love we share! The Italian week was good for me too… but… do people out there hate Alice? I don’t see what’s not to like… everyone on that show is super likeable, and if anyone needs convincing, just try watching the American version!
