What is a blogopolis I hear you ask?
And I was there, yes I was cottage lovers!
It was my first ever blogging conference.
I knew a bit about Nuffnang, but didnt think I had been blogging long enough to register with them. (I have since remedied that little misconception).
Jenny from A Taste Of Travel must have thought I looked like a billy no mates because she came over and graciously introduced herself to little old me, standing there nervously sipping my coffee. We talked for a good half hour and found out we had many of the same interests. She was just gorgeous and I immediately fell in love with her. I quickly began to feel at home and thought if all bloggers are as nice as Jenny, I might just have a good time and forget about my nerves.
At Blogopolis, newbies (as they were called at the conference) like me get to learn from and meet more experienced bloggers and in turn more successful bloggers get to be shining examples and share their wisom. So I was completely startstruck for the better part of the day because all my blogging crushes were there. And before I even had a chance to walk into the conference room, Jenny and I were asked to have our picture taken in front of one of those sponsored background thingy’s like REAL celebs. Then in true Claudia style I ran right in front of one of my biggest blogger crushes Nikki from Styling You having her photo taken. Well done Claudia!
Not exactly the way I wanted to get noticed.
This is Nikki speaking about what opportunities blogging can bring. Here is the link to her amazing post about just that.
We then found Mandy who turned out to be one of the nicest and most generous people I have ever met. We sat down with her at a table beautifully set with vintage tea cups and tea pots filled with Lady Grey. Now if only I could just stop embarrassing myself, I knew these amazing women and I would get on like a house on fire.
Other fantastic women sitting with us at the table were…
Mez from Back In G-Town who was definitely a kindred spirit
Lisa from Secret Homes Of Glebe who was so stylish my hair started freaking out
Lisa from Mummy’s Undeserved Blessings who was so, so sweet
I learned heaps and came away feeling part of something extremely worthwhile.
Because I am too lazy to write the posts myself, here are some great links that talk about other goings on and info we learned at Blogopolis…
Here’s Mandy and Mez in front of the sponsor background thingy I was telling you about. I couldn’t find the photo of Jenny and I online so Mandy generously let me post hers. Thanks Mandy! (see I told you she was generous)
But I couldn’t end the day without embarrassing myself one last time. My business cards, the most important tool when networking, had been ordered, promptly forgotten and left unnoticed at the printer on Friday. So Mr LCBL came to the rescue and dropped a load off at the concierge desk for me (an hour after the printer fnished them, seems the printer was just as airheaded as me and forgot to have them ready). So anyway, while on my way to concierge, I saw my other huge crush Mrs Woog from Woogsworld heading my way.
“Say something witty!” I said to myself, “Quickly, open your mouth and say something to make her laugh so she will remember you!” And what did I say?
Whats worse is that she looked at me like I had said “Mrs Woog your hair is on fire!”
She will remember you alright Claudia, for being a wierdo!
After the huge day of learning we all wound down with bubbly afterwards at Quay Bar and I met some more wonderful bloggers…
To sum up, in all honesty I had never felt more energised by a group of people, people who really believe in and love what they do and people so open, friendly and ready to accept each other.
I am a blogger and I am proud to be one.
(See what I mean about my hair?)
Are you proud of something you are part of?
